The Guide on the Side

Solution-Focused Supervision for

Coaches, Supervisors, Managers and Mentors

At the heart of supervision and mentoring is a relationship in which you support someone else’s development. This programme is for practitioners who want to deepen these skills through a Solution-Focused lens.

With an initial emphasis on supervision, much of what we explore will also be useful for those who mentor others - formally or informally. We’ll cover individual conversations initially and later explore how supervision can work in a group setting. The focus throughout is on how SF principles and tools guide us to navigate the moments where roles blur, dilemmas arise and clarity matters, so we can support others ethically and inspiringly.

This programme is for:

o   Coaches seeking to develop and deepen their supervision practice

o   Experienced supervisors wishing to strengthen their SF stance

o   Managers and coaches who are curious about how, when and whether to share their wisdom

o   Internal coaching leads wanting to introduce more supervision and mentoring into their programmes

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

o   Clarify what’s meant by supervision, mentoring and coaching – distinctions and overlaps

o   Apply SF tools such as Platform and Counters, along with the classic SIMPLE principles, to structure impactful supervision and support conversations

o   Identify when and how to share advice, opinion or know-how appropriately

o   Contract confidently at multiple levels.

o   Navigate dilemmas such as confidentiality, ethical tensions and role clarity with more ease

o   Better support others through observation, feedback and structured conversation
